I’m a writer, photographer, and video journalist based in Warsaw, Poland who covers politics, migration, defense, and conflict in Eastern Europe for outlets including Foreign Policy, New Lines Magazine, Al Jazeera English, UnHerd, Euronews, and various others. Previously, I’ve also covered climate change, terrorism, refugee issues, Iran-backed militias, and beyond in the Middle East, as well as politics and social issues in the US. My journalistic work has spanned a broad set of issues, including the the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the 2019-2020 protests in Beirut, the Syrian refugee crisis in the Levant, the plight of at-risk communities in Afghanistan after the Taliban’s takeover, and the ongoing Poland-Belarus migrant and security crisis. As a freelance journalist reporting on Ukraine, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Iraq, Poland, Turkey, and the US, I’ve always made human stories and experiences the focal point of my work.
After working at several American newsrooms including Business Insider, I started freelancing in spring of 2018, and I’ve split most of my time since then between Beirut, New York City, and Warsaw. While based in Poland, I’ve reported on the migrant crisis along the Belarus border in 2021, and took two reporting trips to Ukraine in 2022 to report on refugees fleeing Russia’s invasion of the country and on war crimes perpetrated by Russian forces in the Kyiv and Kherson areas. In addition, I’ve covered historical memory politics related to the legacy of WWII in Poland, Belarus, and Ukraine, breaking news of a controversial new mass grave discovery in Ukraine leftover from wartime massacres in the region. I’ve produced short video documentaries for Al Jazeera English and Retro Report, in addition to photo essays for Middle East Eye. Since early 2024, I’ve been publishing The Eastern Flank, a weekly newsletter covering Eastern European news.
In May of 2021, I earned a Master of Science degree from Columbia University’s Journalism School in New York City, where I covered a range of beats including alternatives to policing, housing insecurity during COVID-19, right-wing reactions to pandemic restrictions, and politics in Turkey and Iraq.
